here's some good sites to check out if you want some help taking better photos, or just some tricks to add to your repertoire.
digital camera hints that are most useful for a small point-and-shoot (ie canon powershot or kodak easyshare and such). the sunglasses tip is pretty cool, but i don't think it will work for my Rebel.
Thomas Hawk has some good tips for the beginning DSLR photographer, and you can read his blog and find him on Twitter.
